Afsheen Numair started her brand with a strong passion and an appreciation for textile design and craft. She strives to uplift and sustain the craftsperson and their crafts in a rapidly evolving ‘fast fashion’ world - enabling crafts to be accessible and stay relevant for an urban and modern demographic.
Almost 20 years ago, she launched BLOCKED TEXTILES, with a focus
on small batch production, aiming for zero waste. Her block prints have a signature design aesthetic, use of colour and distinct patterns and motifs. The BLOCKED TEXTILES brand however, extends beyond wood block printing. We work closely with rural female artisans in interior Sindh, mainly Sanghar district, and collaborate with them to create our embroidered and patterned /hand appliquéd pieces. An added bonus of our collaboration with these skilled artisans, is that we do a substantial amount of 'upcycling', as every last scrap of fabric that is leftover, is used to create fresh, new designs by using intricate patchwork and hand appliqué techniques, and hence we proudly operate in the slow fashion space.
